Aid & Equipment Re-use Scheme

The DPAA has recently set up and is running an aid and equipment re-use scheme which is available to all sectors and individuals within the community.  The scheme aims to provide equipment or adaptations for disabled people that are no longer required to be donated to suitable needy recipients in the community.

Recent successes of the scheme include the re-siting of a stair-lift from one local authority property to another local authority area where the intended recipient was bed-blocking in hospital due to the need of a stair-lift.  From the first point of contact to the re-siting of the stair-lift into the new premises involved a turn-around of seven working days.  The scheme is committed to ensuring that removal of fixed equipment is done by professionals and that the site is 'made good' afterwards.  Obviously total redecoration of a room may not be appropriate and so this has to be borne in mind by donors of fixed equipment and adaptations.

If you have an aid, adaptation or piece of equipment that you no longer require and would like to donate it to a needy recipient please click here to contact the DPAA by phone, post or email.  We are happy to try to re-home even the smallest item and the scheme is presently run free of charge to all applicants.  If you need such items yourself or know somebody who might click on the same link, above, and let us know.  This service applies to all individuals, carers, local authority service providers or any other agency.  If we don't have the equipment you need we will apply our best endeavours to locating it for you.
